Unit One: Introduction to art
In this first unit we will get our feet wet by exploring some basic techniques and vocabulary. During this unit you will complete a variety of tasks that will not only help prepare you for future classes but also introduce you to the elements and principles of art. You will learn the basic rules and procedures for using supplies in Mrs. Crosby-Boerma's classroom and begin to work in your sketchbook.
Task One: Sketchbook Development
One of most important things you will create during your time in this class is your personal sketchbook. You will use this sketchbook to complete a variety of different assignments, organize your writing prompts, and free draw if you find yourself finished with a project early.
The first step in creating your sketchbook is to design your cover. On a heavy piece of 9 x 12 white card stock create a design that highlights your first and last name and includes any elements and images that represent your interests. For example, my cover seen here included splatter paint for my love of art and it also included my favorite cartoon character. for example my cover seen here included splatter paint because of my love of art and my favorite cartoon charter.
Step two is to print 15 copies of the document below (please make sure they are printed back to back.)
Step three is to make a fold down the center of the cover; stack the printed copies iin the center and staple them on the binding at least four times.
Step four: write your full name on the first page of your sketchbook in case it ever gets separated from it's cover.

Observational Drawing Forms
Students created still life incorporating the five basic forms . They also included a cube that they actually created in three dimensions and added intricate line designs on to . These cubes helped to bring a focal point to their artwork.
Presentation
In case you have missed class and are not with us to hear Mrs. Crosby Boermas presentation on the elements and principles. This is a copy of the slide show that was used in class. Please review and write down any questions you may have for Mrs. Crosby-Boerma so that you are prepared for class.

Please complete five of the watch, find and create activities available on this site. You may select any five of the following topics:
Line
Edge &Outline
Depth
Positive & Negative
